Why it is so much more than just electing a president

This is a response I wrote to an NBC poll asking who I voted for and why.

John Kerry and John Edwards.

It is so important to realize that we not just elect a man,
we really select the path that we think this country should take.

Should we have an awareness that we live in the world with other countries,
that we are not just on this planet alone?
Do we really have an obligation to take care of our brother and sister human beings,
to help the less fortunate among us, not just get all we can for ourselves?
Do we have an obligation to lead by example and not by force?
Should we care about those who come after us and not leave a mess for them to contend with?
Is it right for each able body person in this country who wants to work
and make a contribution-to have opportunity to do so?

I believe that when you consider these questions,
the choice of who to vote for becomes crystal clear.
Only John Kerry supports a positive vision for the future
for all of the people of the United States of America.
